Found this article in one of my subscriptions ......intersting read. Have heard most of the solutions here but not the Bermuda hay fix. FYI http://www.progressivefarmer.com/tabid/948/Default.aspx

I'm skeptical about that and the discing around the pond business.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Major seepage along the levee of a major lake (Buckeye Lake) near me was handled with loose straw some years back. They opened up a bunch of bales in the water off the levee and the seepage pulled the straw into the cracks. It cut off most of the water loss, preventing damage to houses (located just behind the levee) and a possible catastrophic failure (months??? a year??? can't rememember) until proper repairs could be made to the levee.

Same principle as stopping up a toilet. In fact, I would consider not only straw, but shredded paper, if you could find enough of it.
I have a small childs swimming pool that recently began leaking. I use it for my black lab's water source. She was upset. When I found the two inch slit, I put two pieces of bubblegum in my mouth, chewed the sugar out, and plugged it and it has not leaked since. Fixing leaks is easy enough, if you know where they are and their size and cause, assuming the pond has been built properly, which is no safe assumption, normally. Those are the diffult things to figure out and discover.
