There isnt a pond management co. in my area we are in Jacksonville Fl.s groeth path I bealeve there is a need for one I think I could file the need .

If so, then I would wish you good fortune. It can be a tough business to break into. I'd definitely start with a traditional business plan. Always establish the existence of a market first.

I never like to discourage entreprenuers, but . . .

I would say it would be a very tough business to become successful in -- without at least having served an apprenticeship with a very knowledgeable pond boss, who serviced dozens of ponds over several years. Another alternative might be to find a young partner with lots of aquaculture-related education, like a recent grad from a renowned university. Lastly, maybe it could be you who goes for additional formal education. You're never too old.

There are just so many different kinds of ponds, with so many different kinds of problems, and with so many different fish issues, it would easily take several years before you could become somewhat effective. In that time, if you didn't have a lot of real happy customers, you'd ruin your reputation.

I always marvel at the answers that Bob Lusk gives in the Q and A section of each issue of Pond Boss Magazine. Without extensive experience, or a real active imagination, no one could easily dream up some of those answers -- like who would ever think of mixing antibiotics in a wheelbarrow to feed sick fish?

I understand this sentiment, but as the owner of two businesses I didn't really mind getting discouraged. People actively urged me to proceed with caution, and I really, ultimately appreciated it, even though it was initially hard to hear.

i've been an independent going on 4 years, free of the corporate strings usually associated w/ my industry. i wouldnt change a thing but it has been scary at times. the advice to pre-determine the market is everything.

by the way rodeo.....w/ yer background i dont think you'd be intimidated by anything.

Take it slow and keep learing and growing as you become more experienced, but don't quit your day job. And it helps if the mrs. has an income as a cushion.
