The Shout Box was slowing down the site, so we had to nix it. I'll continue to monitor the site and make more changes, if necessary, to make sure we are up to speed.

I wondered about that. It seems like it would have to constantly refresh itself.
If people liked having the shout box we could always have a shout thread in the Family Talk section. It would essentially work the same way and would tend to stay on top if people used it. I would think there is a better term than shout though...

Ted you may want to try this:
Hold down your CONTROL key and press the = key. This will make the type larger and bolder on all websites. To return to normal hold down the CONTROL key and press the - key.

well since i am one of only a couple true dinosaurs here, FYI, from the dial-up perspective, removing the shout box has no noticeable affect on the speed of the site.
GSF are people too!

The forum runs faster outside. I liked the shoutbox, but I have dsl. If I still had dialup with this new format, I probably would be cussing like a mother duck.

It's off and on for me, but I'm having issues with my service provider. My download speeds are ranging between 150 and 1200 kbps. When my speeds are good in general I don't have a problem here.

Even with the shout box gone, it still ain't lickety split. I'm on cable. PB forum is top priority for my internet usage, and I recently upgraded from dial-up to to fiber optic 54.0 Mbps for an extra $50 bucks a mohnth. So far I should have stayed with dial-up. Hope J.P. "tweaks" a bunch ...
