Does anyone have any experience or opinions on these "Hy Tech Specks" (Hybrid White Pearch) from Ken's Hatchery. 300% faster growth and have been known to eat brem feed and they reproduce. White pearch are so tasty. I will soon be ready to stock my 20 acre lake. I know the pros and cons of white pearch ie. overpopulation. Critique this scenario: Fat heads, CNB, and RES as initial stocking then LMB a few HSB (which I will feed) and these bad boy Hy Tech Specks at about 10% the recommended stocking rate to allow the LMB and HSB to get a jump start to somewhat control the WP.

Trying to be nice here. Ken told me about them. He went into long story basically folks at UGA did not believe him that they eat food. They were amazed at results. I asked who tested he could not tell me a name. I asked around and the fish professors knew nothing and had not spoke with Ken in years. Not saying not done but I know them I got my masters there. My take, he has done some major work on creatng them. They might be great, just find the claims hard to believe. I have had clients that have them and can not see a major diff. That is all I will say.

I would suggest that they are a good place to start as they cover hybrid crappie. There are peer reviewed studies on hybrid crappie and they don't show a super fish but ones that are mid -range of their parentals but with lower reproduction (fecundity) rates.

Hey Doc! The good news is, crappie of any type should be more manageable in your 20a lake than a small pond.

Maby lower reproduction is a good thing. Thanks for the threads ewest. I wish I had more info on these particular white pearch as they seem to be touted as a reproducing hybrid rather than a triploid. I certainly hear where you are coming from Greg and really respect your opinion. I still have concerns about WP in my lake, however we have so many birds visit that they will get in anyway. I thought I could start with a reduced number and a good gene pool. Bob, when it dries up some come visit.

Bob I am not trying to talk you out of WC or BC or hybrids. Just saying I don't think from what I have read of others peer reviewed research that they will grow substantially better or bigger than the others. Even with feeding all the species I know of don't grow 300% better than their genetic parentals. Not HBG , not HSB , not F-1 LMB not CC/blue hybrid cats not saugeye not SMB/LMB hybrids and not any of the lepomis crosses.
