I've decided to change my forum name from damn yankee to GW. Damn yankee was meant to be a little self-teasing, but I realize that it might some people uncomfortable.

For those who might not know, damn yankee is a joke. "What do you call someone from up north? A yankee. What do you call a yankee that comes to visit and stays. A damned yankee."

I don't really identify with a particular state or region, but this is the second time I've lived in Georgia and I sure do like it here.

Well then, welcome again, GW. Glad you're here and contributing!

You might get as much grief from the "G-Dub" moniker anyway.

just be glad you werent insightful like me, just trying to be simple and pick a handle of who i is and where i be from....dave in el dorado......and then get a friendly ahian engineer to figure out my acronmyn is D.I.E.D.....i was forced out of sheer peer pressure to just do it.....had to stick w/ it.

Anyway, GW, it's a pleasure to have you around, and you'd worked your way up to "danged yankee" in my book before you changed your moniker.

What's funny is that when people look back at old posts they'll see others calling me yankee or damn yankee and they'll think this is a rough place.

I like it too dave in el dorado ca (why do people abbreviate your member name?), but I think it might make some people uncomfortable because it's like teasing a stranger. It's the kind of thing a Southerner might call someone after they've become close friends, but could be considered bad manners if you don't know the person.

"Unhand me, damn yankee" is (or perhaps it is more accurate to say I thought was :rolleyes: ) a cliched pop culture line based on Gone With the Wind.

The line or close variations has been uttered by such diverse sources as Flip Wilson (on Here's Lucy), Corporal Klinger (on M.A.S.H, while wearing a formal hoop skirt), and Bart Simpson (while portraying John Wilkes Booth in the school Presidents' day pageant -- his best line was a Schwarzeneggeresque "Hasta la vista, Abie.").
