I'm not much into horses, and know even less about horse racing. Conversely, D-ski and her family grew up operating a small horse farm and spent alot of time at the track. It is her history that draws me to watch the K derby and other races.
Wow! What a horse race! Street Sense and Borel played that one like a stradivarius. Quite a memorable performance.

My problem with the Derby is the same one I have with NASCAR - they're both on when the weather's nice. I just don't watch much TV when it's nice enough to be outside.

I'm in awe of those big animal athletes, and the Derby is one of those traditional American events that we can't ignore.

Did I watch the Derby? No, I was out at the pond, as usual. \:D

Because I am so jealous of my time, I limit my sports addictions to football (LSU and Saints) and mixed martial arts (Ultimate fighting). Luckily, 1 is a winter sport, and 1 is always at night.

I'm not a big fan of horse races, so I really never do watch the Derby.

But we were regular attendees at the Preakness in Pimlico, MD, for about 10 years in a row from '90 to 2000.

They never show it on TV, but the infield is a massive, MASSIVE, party.

We'd line up outside the gates a little before 7AM with as much beer & booze as you could carry.

Around 9AM, the show would begin. The show being thousands of overly intoxicated people crammed together doing sometimes funny and many times stupid things.

My liver can't take it anymore.

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

I've never watched a horse race in real time until this one. I liked it.

PS. Actually I paused it on my DVR while Cindy showered so that she could see it "live". We were 1/2 hour behind "real" time, but it's all relative right?

Cant believe I missed it. And the replays. Hvent even read about it. Trying to keep up with a 2 yr. old does that to an ole timer. I never betted on them, but always watched the Derby. Maybe I can find a replay.
bobad, UFC rocks! All others are imposters. I WOULD like to see Liddell and Wanderlae Silva go at it, though.

It's impossible to miss it here (see my From: at the bottom of this post). \:\) It's the biggest two weeks of the year here, the Kentucky Derby Festival. Starting in the recent past with Thunder over Louisville air show and incredible fireworks display:

"After more than a decade, the show remains the largest annual pyrotechnic display in North America. Seen by millions worldwide via a July 4th rebroadcast on the Armed Forces Network to more than 150 countries, it is the states pride. A Discovery Channel documentary on fireworks shows says it best, Thunder is the Grand-daddy of them all!."

http://www.thunderoverlouisville.org

If I had to choose coming to Louisville for the first Saturday in May, or Thunder two weeks prior, it would be Thunder. People come from all over the country to see it. Well, both of them, for that matter. Lots more people at Thunder than Derby though, 500K+ vs. 160K.

I've lived here for about 7 years and never been to Derby, but the wife and I always go to Thunder. We always watch Derby on TV.

Here's a clip of the race which tracks Street Sense.

The video is taking a while to load because of heavy traffic.

Man, I just watched that stretch run on the inside. He had to run a much less distance on the inside...how did he sneak thru there? amazing. Helluva ride.

<---- Pretty big horse racing fan. Good ride but Curlin got a bad trip and still managed third. The Preakness should be interesting assuming both run in it.
