Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Raising Forage and Bait Rain and CNBG spawn

My pond had about 18"s of clearity and after todays rain its back down to about 2"s, and it raised the water level back up several inches. Will this hurt the CNBG spawn? Will it effect the new fry? They are calling for more rain the next few days. Which should bring my pond back to full. It will raise the water level about 2 feet. Just wondering what effect it will have on the spawn. Sorry, just a worried new pond owner.

Don't worry. They'll be fine. Bluegill have evolved to survive variations in weather and water quality. Otherwise you'd only find them in clear mountain lakes.

This might slow 'em down a little, but they'll be OK.

When should I add the LMB to the pond. I would like to raise large CNBG so I plan on crowding the LMB. My thought is to put in 45 LMB. Should I give the CNBG all season to spawn or should I put them in now?

okiefish16 the key is the size of the fish. You don't want your new LMB to be big enough to eat your first stocked CNBG. If the CNBG are big enough now to spawn then 2-4in LMB in Sept will work.

That sounds like a good plan. Is 45 LMB a good number?
