My land finally dried up enough to bush hog. While cutting near the treeline, I came to a 6' wide puddle, about 1' deep. I remember creating the hole when I dozed over a small tree last spring. I noticed movement in the hot, crystal clear water, and thought "Ah. Tadpoles.". A closer look revealed an adult gambusia minnow and lots of medium sized ones swimming in formation.

Well, that natural stocking took all of 5 months. I better go back and check my older stump holes. I may have LMB, RES, and a mako shark lurking in there.

That's an amazing story.

I don't know what's more impressive--the fact that they ended up in that stump hole, or the fact that they survived and prospered in an area that small and shallow during a hot Louisiana summer.

No need. My big pond and my minnow pond are already overrun with them.

All I have to do is walk out on my floating deck and stomp my feet, and the water turns black with gams waiting for pellets. I've never seen so many in my life. When I stock my LMB this fall, I bet they quit clustering up like they do.

It's been rainy this year. Until this week, we have been getting showers 2-3 days a week since spring. A couple of more days like yesterday and today(102F), and that little puddle will be gone.

I would love to know how they got in there. I guess the odds are highly in favor of a bird being the vector.
