After the pond was dug I had 2 1/2 ton of pea gravel delivered. I had them dump it near the edge of the pond. Then I spread it out. I told the wife it was so we could have a place to get in and out of the pond without sinking down in the clay. The whole time I hoped that the fish would find this a nice place to spawn. As I was walking by it today I looked down and noticed many bluegills making spawning beds in the gravel. This made my day. It's very hard to get a picture of them. This is the best one I could get so far. What little wind there is has blown a film over to this part of the pond. I'll try and get better pics later.

Is the pea gravel unwashed? If so, the film could be from the unwashed pea gravel.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Cecil I don't think it's the gravel. When there's just a slight breeze my pond always gets a surface film on the opposite side form the breeze. Once there's enough wide to make some waves it's gone.

Awesome. I like it that they spawn in the pea gravel, too. We're put off getting some gravel, (need some riprap too for two larger waterway areas). We need gravel in the low area for a place to be able to pull the boat and paddle boat in. Dock doesn't have a cover and if we tie it off and it rains, it would probably fill the boats, just don't trust it.
