I gave it my best shot and learned a lot along the way, my wife didn�t like the cables ( which worked btw) so we went with kickers. Were going to finish it up this weekend and I need some ideas for hand rails.

I think the bracing is fine. To me it makes more sense to the eye than just the cantilever alone. It looks great.

How stiff is the end of the dock now?

Jim, You have nothing to hold your head down at. To me it looks awesome. Things change as built!! What makes a good craftsman is the ability to look at a situation and make modifications as necessary to meet the need. A part of that would be pleasing the better half. You have heard the old saying � If mama isn�t happy nobody is happy�

One question I have how is the supports connected to the concrete piles?

How about metal posts every 10' or so. Heavy guage braided rope with eyelets attached to heavy hooks. Gives it a nautical appearance with the ability of the individual rails/ropes being removable for easy water access if you choose.

The only reason your head may hang is from the heavy load of ideas that it contains. Quit whinin' and get back to work...we want to see the finished product!

My only thought on the handrails is the overall aesthetic appeal. You have quite the superstructure of steel goin' on there. I would be inclined to "soften it up" a little with more natural products. Stuff like wood or Blaine's thought about using rope.
What are your plans for the decking?

After thought... The ropes even bring back the suspension look. "Steel Gate Bridge"

Curious Jim, you said the cables worked, I'm sure the 5/8 looked even larger on the deck, were you able to get them tight to take all of the bounce out for you.

I have been scanning Google Images for the past year looking at dock 'designs' with no results, and YOU just gave me the best idea for mine! Hope you don't mind, but I am going to copy yours completely. So, yeah, get back to work and keep the pictures coming! And Thanks!!!

Tim Stuart�..we anchored some steel plates to the pillar foundation and welded the supports to them.

Brettski��2x6 treated decking, 2x12 treated skirting, no decision on the hand rails yet.
