I just aquired 3 nice fish traps.I'm going to use them to try to find out just what is lurking in the depts of my muddy pond. What I would like to know is what kind of bait should I use, if any.....thanks..jimmy

"Bread, dog food, or fish food" per ewest in a contemporary thread. I'd try using whichever of those I had on hand and give it a go.

Some folks try and suspend whatever bait they're using so it is in a direct line between the two entry/exit holes.

i tie a twisted rubberband accross the inside of the trap and use that as the bait holder cuz with it twistit will sqeeze the bread enough to hold it.

I use a small paint strainer bag and fill it with pellets. The pellets disintegrate and some of it gets out to use as lure.
Editing: I also toss some pellets in the vicinity of the trap(s).
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Take an old pair of your wife's panty hose and cut it so that you can tie one end, fill with fish food, then tie the other end. The fish food will last a long time in a mushy state. One pair of panty hose will make enough food pouches to last several years. You can actually untie one end and rinse the pouch out and re-use it. I have no idea how I came up with this idea, but it works very well.
