Burger,I wouldn't be concerned about words not in common usage and I wouldn't bother to look them up. Some of the great minds use and used only simple words but put them together in a special way. For example, ... "that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain - that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth" (A. Lincoln). Count them; you'll find only one word over two syllables. And you certainly won't find "nefarious". Best to keep it simple, don't you think?

Change gov-ern-ment to gub-mint for a perfect score!

Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address

This brief discourse (it lasted only 2 min.) followed a two-hour oration by Edward Everett, the main speaker at the event and one of the most famous speakers of the time. In the contemporary newspaper reports of the dedication ceremonies, Everett's remarks were lauded highly and given prominence on the front page, while the words of Lincoln were relegated to an inside page. Everett, however, was sufficiently moved by the simple and sincere eloquence of Lincoln to write the following note to him on the day after the dedication: �I wish that I could flatter myself that I had come as near to the central idea of the occasion in two hours as you did in two minutes.� Today, the Gettysburg Address by Lincoln is universally recognized not only as a classical model of the noblest kind of oratory but also as one of the most moving expressions of the democratic spirit ever uttered .

My favorite part:

�But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate�we cannot consecrate�we cannot hallow�this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. The idea is to get the point across in the clearest way so that it sticks in the listeners mind. For example today no one knows what Everett said but Lincoln's 2 min. speech rings powerful across the ages.

This is probably the work of Jeffhasapond, and represents part of his nefarious scheme to hijack every thread into an obscure and unrecognizable oblivion. It's obviously working; this one started out with clever catfish and wound up with the Gettysburg Address!

Now wait a minute here, I didn't jack this thread, if blame is to be lain for causing this thread to take a hard left turn then perhaps Theo (or his clone) is to blame. After all he is the one that started this down the shotgun path.

Secondly, there's no proof that I cloned Theo, in fact I've never been close enough to obtain a tissue sample. But I do believe that a diabolical scheme to clone pond meisters is in play. Several times I have mentioned that I am quite sure that Bob Lusk has been cloned and I've been ignored more than a UFO abductee at a NASA convention. I believe that if anyone is a suspect in this cloning ordeal it is none other than our mild mannered Bruce Condello. He has had plenty of opportunity having met BOTH Bob Lusk and Theo, he has knowledge - - just look at his freakishly large Blue Gill and you know something is going on behind closed doors in secret rooms on the Condello Compound. The only thing I'm unsure of is motive.

Finally, I can't be blamed for all of the hijacks here, only a high percentage of them. Follow Brettski around the forum and you'll see the work of yet another deviant besides me.

Excuse me, I'm trolling for PFF. "Nefarious" was enough to get Dudley back on the forum.

I finally hijacked a medium-sized nefarious catfish tonight, and she came up reciting the Gettysburg address!

Got her on the "reduced for half-price" ripened shrimp I bought last week. Only 23 inches, 5 lbs 0 oz, with a mouth 2-3/4 inches wide. I think she is an off-spring.

Really fat. I'm bleeding her out as I write this. I can't wait to see what is inside -- pictures to follow if anything interesting. (I think she is a she -- I'll know in a few minutes.)

Can't wait for a catfish fry and cornbread tomorrow night!

This one did a lot of "talking" when I caught her. She sounded like a saltwater croaker.
