I nabbed this big boy as he was crossing our driveway this afternoon. I think it is a rat snake, but I'm not totally sure...  [/IMG]  [/IMG] My wife freaked out, but my 3 daughters thought it was pretty cool. If it is a venomous snake, this will be my last post...

Dan, Mudcat Joe says it�s OK to be that close to a snake, so long as it�s ded. :rolleyes: And, it�s Ok to hold it in your hands, so long as you has chopped off its hed. It's probably a gray ratsnake, or perhaps a lighter phase of a black rat snake. They're normally very thin-bodied, so that one looks very healthy. Young ones tend to bite a lot, the older ones can be very placid. You never know how important they are until they are all gone and the mice take over. I badly need one in my tractor shed. I think the king snakes ate all of mine.

bobad is probably right on. but there are a couple other possibilities inlcuding:
-fox snake,
-glossy/faded snake, or
-bull snake.
if you really want to know, look these up, read their descriptions, and examine yer details of the scales, head shape, and underbelly to help distinguish it.

This looks a lot llike a prairie kingsnake to me.Check it out on google image and see if you agree.

Looks like a rat snake to me. They can get kinda testy..Ive seen them in different color phases..I saw a huge Coachwhip this weekend

I caught one a while back, and the tail is much shorter and more blunt. The head is smaller too. The head on this one (inasmuch as I can see it) looks classic rat snake.

Is it just me, or does that feller have a "meal" in his middle pouch? Thought about that the last time I saw that pic... BTW...nice hat. That would make my BIL in Houston proud.
