On a brighter side, I caught this 11-1/2" SMB on Saturday. It's a cell phone picture so the quality's not the greatest but here it is.

My intial thoughts on Saturday were "after years and years of drought, happiness is a full pond." By Sunday afternoon I had changed my mind after watching BG after BG get sucked down the pipe and out of the pond at an average size of 2". The water level was only an 1" above the pipe when I got there yesterday afternoon and BG were still getting sucked down at a rate of 2-3 fish every 5-10 seconds. My dad said Sunday morning they were disappearing at a rate of 2-3 BG every 5 seconds when it was still 4" above the pipe. At that rate we probably lost 10,000 to 25,000 2" BG in a 14 hour period yesterday. I felt ill after inspecting the drainage ditch below the discharge pipe last night, there were thousands of 1-3" BG wedged in the grass everywhere and the discharge pipe was still dumping water at an estimated rate of 120 gallons per minute. Now it looks like I will need to cull more bass than I plannned too this year.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention, the flash flooding washed out or big foot brigde again, the one that was circled in the satelite photo. Well PLEASE!!!! PLEASE!!! PLEASE!!!! Send some of that rain my WAY!!! My lake has not filled YET from three years ago when it was built!!! Last year at this time I added 120 more acre of water shed to my lake and it has made a differance, but this year end and year out of drought has KILLED us!!!!! Please send some of this rain our way!!! All I need is a good soaking 6 inch rain maybe 5 inches... Man you would not BELIEVE how I check the weather day in and day out hoping for saome rain for the past TREE YEARS!!!!

Hey Big...I've been right there with ya for the past 3 years. Finally, rain in Iowa. Still waiting on the second pond to fill, but the original is there.
Starting to wonder if I've enough drainage to ever fill the second one. With the rain that we've gotten this spring...figured it would be higher. I might have to spring for a thousand feet of tile to make up the difference.
In a lifetime, the average driver will honk 15,250 times. My wife figures I'm due to die any day now...

big pond, sooner or later the water will show up. The 3.2 million gallons we recieved this weekend all came off of a 80-90 acre watershed.

I Really sould post a picture of what I got so far, but it is going down ever so slightly everyday that it does not rain....It is a ten acre lake that is 30 feet deep, that needs 2.5 feet from the top..

My ponds were dry for the past three years, maybe more (I just bought the place a few months ago), up until two weeks ago. We filled almost four acres of ponds in just over two weeks. Amazing.
Stocking starts tomorrow morning, BG's and CC's for now, lots of fatheads to grow in some additional ponds on the property; we'll need to feed the walleyes we plan to plant in the fall.
Like Shorty, we've got a pretty good watershed (and a well and pump, albeit not a mighty machine) and that's been a real blessing of late. We'll see how things hold up.
BTW, I'm (obviously) really new here but was directed to the site by a fish wizard. You people are awesome, smart and willing to share. I'm blessed to be here and looking forward to learning and telling about my mistakes. If history's an indicator, I'll have lots to contribute...on the mistakes side.

MJR, welcome.
My regrets about having to turn down your mistakes. So far, I have lapped the field and there is little room left for any new ones.
Most of have killed our share of fish.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

MJR welcome to the PB forum. We will enjoy your journey and as you can see a lot of them are chronicled here. Some success stories some learning experiences but a great journey either way.
