I continue to follow every lead I can, watching the link between "pet food poisoning" and how it is now progressing into inspection of hogs (the first wave of human consumption to hit the press). The hogs are testing positive for the melamine.http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,268181,00.html)
In this story, it states: "Investigators have found melamine in at least two imported Chinese vegetable proteins used to make pet foods."
How can we be sure that the high protein in fish pellets does not contain melamine? (The Chinese are privately being accused of illegally "spiking" their products with the melamine to cause testing to produce higher protein levels that do not exist.)
I'm not an alarmist, but the fact is, 'buyers' for the big U.S. companies are shopping over-seas for the best deal on "ingredients" and the bummer is, they don't have to list the facts of where those ingredients come from. Those of us that feed Aquamax should be very concerned as Purina IS on the list of "pet foods" recalled. One of the main things we shop for in fish food is what? Percentage of PROTEIN. I smell a rat on this and I can only hope that I am not right.
If anyone has any information, or can get any information confirming or denying these concerns, please post it ASAP. I will do the same.

There are none of the Chinese products in question contained in GameFish CXhow or AquaMax, nor are there any at the mill. If you have questions, I am in my office this afternoon. Call the toll free number on the bag and ask for me. Best regards, Mark

Mark Griffin: Thank you for this post. I feed about 1200lbs of Aquamax a year. With the increasing number of incidences of contaminated food sources, I'm not only concerned about pet or fish food, but I am getting a growing concern over the food we humans are ingesting over-all. I do have some follow-up questions, but will save them for a phone call. We are on the road again (2 more months out) but I will call you when I get a break. Again, thank you.
DY: yepp. One thing I am learning (so far) is that the melamine doesn't seem to hang up in the meat itself. (Hogs that is.) That's good. We are "organic" as we can possibly be (without being anal about it) and all the sudden we seem to be fighting an up-hill battle... Then the pet food thing hits. And truly? I don't see any "fault" in it, as the government screening agencies in charge are stretched thin with man-power and the US's demand for supply is ever growing. Whatever happened to horse and buggy days, eh? \:\)
