This are three of about 50 yellow perch out of the pond that will be sold to a client for public aquariums. I believe these paticular three are either males, females past their fecundity prime, or post spawn. Fish are 14 to 15 inches +. Free labor!

Anybody get a surprise fish, like a big 'gill during this angling expedition?

I've been happy with walleyes smaller than those.

Yes there were some big gills taken on fathead minnows but no bigger than 9 inches -- although they did have high WR's. Also the occasional smallmouth bass of about 14 inches.

The fishing is getting to be less fun than usual. I need to catch 20 more for health testing and the vet is coming Wednesday morning.( I have 25 in a cage right now) I couldn't catch a single perch this evening. I will be out there at first light tomorrow and will fish all day.

I have Northern Pike that would be afraid of perch that size! Wowzers

Got the last one this morning and pulled a big one out of the holding pond to make sure I had 45 for testing. I hope we don't have to use her.

Fishing ceases to be fun when your wife wants to know where the income is, your customers are asking where their fish mounts are, and you're not sure you'll get enough fish for testing to make the sale complete.

Very nice fish, We catch alot that size on Seneca lake fishing but, few and far between in a pond. I have 10-12'' perch in my pond but, certainly nothing like those. Very nice job..

Have you been in Seneca yet this year? I usually head down around this time right after spawn. Its always good to hear from a fellow NY pond meister.

Can you put yellow pearch in a 9.5 acre Georgia lake?

I could be wrong but I think temps would get too warm in the summer. The larger perch have problems with high temps. It's also possible your Fish and Game may not want you to import any. They can be a nusiance species if not managed right and can overpopulate and stunt.

Those are not jumbos their jalopies.

Actually CB1 photos are of Jumbo perch. By definition (Dr. Dave Willis & Dan Isermann, In-Fisherman: Dec 2003) Jalopies are 2 pound perch which for standard weight is a 15"-16" perch. Jumbos (std wt) are between 1-2 lb lengths 12.3"-14.9" (Willis & Isermann 2003). Dr Perca

Close enough I think he did write 15inches in his paragraph but did not give the wheight. Not trying to split hairs here. I always understood that a jumbo was any perch over nine inches and most adult perch are between 6 to 9 inches.

Many common anglers catch the 6"-9" perch in lakes, reservoirs, ponds. When they catch some perch 9"-11" they resort to using the term jumbo perch because to them the larger perch are jumbo compared to what they often catch. Local regions of the country may also have slightly different standards for Jumbo perch. Some yellow perch strains in some parts of the US do not get as large as the faster growing and larger strains. Diehard perch anglers who persue large perch typically use the definition I used above for Jumbo perch. Jalopy perch is a relatively new term for the Trophy class of yellow perch.
