And to think a couple of weeks ago water temps were about 60 F. from top to bottom!

At least long range temps are on the increase at a seasonable rate with no swings in sight.

How about you?

Bremer Pond was completely ice covered, yesterday. The ice was thick enough that the geese were walking around on it,a puzzled look on their faces.

Today the pond is open, though it is snowing, with 3-5" expected over night. \:\(

The BG pond had some ice the other day. The ducks were having a hard time navigating through it. The last few days has been open water.

After 14F, there was some minor ice along the edges and in the backwaters. There was heavy wave action during most of the cold mornings.

Big difference in the temp from northern indiana to southern indiana the last few days. The lake here never got near freezing and today it was real nice with the air temp about 57 and sunny. I was able to run a disk in our green fields today after they delivered about 3 tons of lime for the fields. Tony fished some and caught about 30 bass after he returned from testing at Kentucky Motor Speedway this evening. I do hope that we can get out of these cold spells soon.

Jody,

You might want to go easy on the bass in these cold of temps. They are more likely to develop fungus if they are handled in cold water. I have about 100 bass I want to put into a larger cage. I won't even bother until the water hits 50 F. or above. I have had several growers tell me to absolutely not handle bass in cold temps.

Nope, no ice in northern Michigan (lower peninsula). the trout are jumping! Up to 20" after just one year- put in 10-11" last April.

Oh yeah- I've had the aerator on all winter? Actually, I love my set-up that I put together last summer. Aerator- with thermostat control. So, I set it to turn on when it dipped below 36 and off at 38- that kept the pond clear all winter. Now, I've reset the thermostat to turn on, when it is lower than 63 and off when it reaches 65.

I was surprised on 3/30, uniform pond temp was 51. With all the sub freezing weather we've had in MI and more SNOW in the past two weeks, I'll bet the pond is back down to 48 (temp of 30 gpm, artesian and well pump water) or lower.

Good for you Mike! I've got 100 all male brooks and 75 mixed sex browns in the 7 to 9 inch range right now. The herons want them bad! But the herons are in serious danger!

They are feeding good once a day, but I did have ice on the pond this morning. I shut off the well flow when it's this cold. No need for the inflow and might as well save it and the electricity.

The water temp has been between 50-55 and I do understand what you are saying. I would rather not have any fishing right now but you dont know my boss very well. He goes fishing when he can and that is very little. The last week had a few days due to the NASCAR off week for easter. But he now is back off to Texas this week for the race in Ft Worth and doesnt have any free days for the next few weeks that I can see on the schedule. I just like to see him enjoy it when he can. But thanks for the information.

I understand fully. Actually 50 or above is probably O.K. I was talking about water below 50 F.
