Questions and Answers continues to be a catch all for every thread around. I suggest that Bob Lusk and the monitors make the following changes.
First, whenever a thread is posted, check that it is in the correct category. If it isn't, move it to the correct category immediately. You might be able to go back through the threads and move some of them.
Secondly, go through the questions and answers threads and break out new topics. Ask the forum readership to help with this.
These are two topics that I think should be broken out.
Births, deaths and personal announcements. We've become a big enough family that it seems to me that we would want a category where we can find this type of info quickly.
Conventions and meetings. This would include comments about the last convention. More than that though, it seems like everywhere Bob goes is a meeting. I know of one in Atlanta and another in Lincoln. There would be comments about all of these mini conferences.
Any comments about these ideas?

Sounds good to me. Sometimes I am not sure where to post a thread. For example when I did the tilapia experiment I wasn't sure if it belonged in Controlling unwanted plants, type of fish to choose or questions and observations. Thank goodness for the search button!

Norm, I like your ideas. I have always said that there needs to be a few more categories (Forum Topics). Most recent category additions were: 1. Bob Lusks Blog, 2. News, Announcements, PBF Guide, 3. Q-A Archives, 4. Raising Bait and Forage, 5. Fertilization. Adding a couple more categories is especially important now that the participation has increased and it continues to grow. Let's see if Bob can act or comment on this. Remember it may depend on a money issue.
It is a good idea for the moderators to move topics if they are placed inappropriately. I for one will try to pay attention to this. MEMBERS - Do not hesitate to suggest to a moderator (email or PM - private message) if you think an old post needs to be moved to a different category. I think it would make this task less problematic if there were more categories.
I think your suggestion of , "Births, deaths and personal announcements" could all be appropriately placed in the News, Announcements & PBF Guidelines forum category

Guys we can do some of that. See the 2 archive posts below. http://www.pondboss.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=000048 http://www.pondboss.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=22;t=000047 Where the problem comes in is where the other stuff ( conv. , personal , funny etc) comes up in the middle of a thread. In that case it is a close call on whether and where to move the thread. I have been doing like I did on George's flies and starting a separate thread with links to the original. Theo did the same with the 2007 Conv. thread. Bill I did one this am but I think only Bob and Moderators can post there. But we can sure move things to that location.

I feel safe in saying that not all of the moderators know how to perform all the tasks requested of us, considering that I don't.
Maybe we need a Archives-for-moderator tasks category.

Yeah, I don't know how to either.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

The archive links have been a great help to me, and much appreciated.
The moderators have a difficult job, and unfair to ask them to take on much more responsibility.

George we can handle a few more chores but you know we are in trouble when the moderators are : 1. A comedian. 2. Busy either doing crazy genetic tests or alternately drilling teeth. 3. Looking in a microscope at small wiggly things all day. 4. A librarian trying to teach people things with a fire hose. 5. A self elected guv. who can't even post pics. And each of them have been known to hi-jack a thread.

Norm Kopecky - I hope that you are kidding! First, whenever a thread is posted, check that it is in the correct category. If it isn't, move it to the correct category immediately. You might be able to go back through the threads and move some of them. :(

I get your ideas Norm, in other boards that I have posted on (car boards - use to own muscle cars and hot rods before I liquidated all my toys and bought a property that has a liquid play ground) anyway other boards have a "Welcome to the Board" section where newly arrived folks can say "Hi, my name is Jeff and I'm a pondaholic" and we can all say in unison and three part harmony "HI JEFF." A board like this is much more work than you would suspect. Constant monitoring is required to keep the fish porn and dirty fish jokes out of the view of young pondsters. Besides if we add duties to the moderators the next thing you know they will be asking for a raise and to quote Pink Floyd.... "but if you ask for a raise it no surprise that their giving none away, awaaaay, away. [not that I have anything to do with either PB payroll or Pink Floyd]. The mod squad does a great job (hey that sorta rhymed!)

This forum means so much to so many of us that I think it is worth our time to discuss how it works. I certainly don't mean to take anything away from Bob and the moderators or add more work to them. Rather, my hope is that this discussion will be an aid to their work.
I suggest that the Intro section be only for things that can be posted by Bob or the moderators. We currently have that and I'm suggesting just removing Questions and Answers from this section.
Then I suggest that those of us that are interested go through the Questions and Answers section and pick out general topics. Some that I've identified are: personal notices, conventions, weather, government relations, other wildlife, humor, about our areas (Thailand for example)etc. There are certainly more.
I suggest that a whole new section be started for these types of themes. This would be an area where we all can post.
What we want to end up with is an area for everything and then everything in its area.
If I'm barking up a dead tree, I'm not tied to these ideas. If others think this would be a useful thing to pursue, I'd be glad to help.
