Amdro ant bait is the only thing that I have used that really kills them as opposed to making them move. It only takes a teaspoonful to kill a mound, and of that teaspoon, I suppose 99.5% is corn cob and vegetable oil.

It *is* harmful to fish, so it would have to be used sparingly and carefully. I think you would have to go crazy with it to get enough in your pond to do any harm.

I once had 4-5 Oz of dirty lacquer thinner I needed to dispose of. I dumped it on a large ant mound, first poking a deep hole. AFAICT, it killed every last one of them. Since it evaporates 100%, it may be a viable solution.

My neighbor used to gas them with propane. He would poke a hole in the mound, then stick in a hose attached to a 5 gallon propane tank. He would open the valve a tiny bit, and according to him, the mound was dead in 15 minutes. That's pretty time consuming when you have 10-20 mounds per acre.
