Good grief! that looks like a 7x7 0r possiby a 8x8 elk. must have been sick or weak or wounded. they can swim along ways, they float very well with there hair being hollow they are very bouyant.
Maybe that huge set of antlers had him nose heavy and he couldnt hold his head out of the water for very long.
