OK, I know that's a huge URL, but how do I get the hyperlink going?

This is weird, I just installed a gate with a lock four months ago on my private drive, when I pulled up the map for my place it name my road and an arrow pointing to the gate it says lock/keyed gate how did they know that?

Thanks guys - great info! FWIW here are my results on our ponds/lands.
1. The Google info is at least 5 years old more like 7-8.
2. The palininmeter info via Google is way off on our ponds 20% under on one , 15% under on another and 20% over on the third. Part may be operator error and part the nature of the ponds.
3. The Mapquest Ariel photo info is at most 18 mths old and much clearer than Google or MSN.
4. MSN Livesearch info is about the same age and functions like Google Earth.
Do either Livesearch or Mapquest have a palininmeter function ?

For my place Google Earth has the newest image. It must be after May, 2006 since it shows both my barn and the two travel trailers that I put on the property. The Mapquest image of my place is old. I looked at DIED's place on Google Earth and neither his truck nor his boat are in his driveway...and he say's he's been working soooo much lately. What's up with that Mr. Dave?

Our house shows up good on Google Earth, but our land 7 miles away is blurry and low resolution. Livesearch and Mapquest work well, but we have an awesome color GIS system for our county and that's what I use. The county GIS system images are from Fall 2005 I believe, so they don't show my ponds and dozer work and stuff on the land.

Brettski, Yes, last fall. I can guess within a couple of weeks when the picture was taken because the deep end was being excavated. In the Microsoft picture the pond area had not been cleared yet.
Wish me luck.

Here's mine on Mapquest. The pics on the Microsoft site were over 10 years old. The Google pics where about the same as Mapquest but lower quality. Here's a pic from Mapquest with my property marked with white rectangle. My first pond is circled with yellow (to the left of the picture. My second pond dug last fall isn't shown in the pic but I circled the approximate size and location on the right side of picture. I love to see these aerial shots of all your places.

For those who have "blurry" pictures, there is hope. Google Earth recently updated my place with new clear pictures...hang in there and keep checking back.

Iowans use the Iowa Geographic Map Server. No looking elsewhere, because our needs are met. Partial screenshot of the options and image. It doesn't have aerial for my specific area for 2006, 1970, or 1930. They are slowly getting filled in.

I'm not trying to be paranoid but you notice I didn't post a link to my property. I had an occasion not long ago where someone from this forum PM'd me and began asking a lot of questions. It seemed all the discussions eventually got around to whether or not I got all the proper permits and abided by all the laws of our state in everything I was doing. The person seemed to know the laws very well and said they were just wondering what I was able to get away with before they started their project. They said they would also be looking for a lot of building and stocking advice but that never happened. Also kept prodding for info on where my pond was located. Odd thing was that as soon as the person found out that I obeyed the laws as best I could they completely disappeared from the forum and PM's. No more interest in talking to me. Even though I try to be legal on everything I don't need anyone snooping around looking for problems. What do you guys think?

It's an open Forum. Don't admit to anything that could get you in trouble. There is nothing that would prevent someone with a "cause" from mining the site for info to use against you.
bz you need to provide that info (who) to Bob or one of the moderators by PM or email.

Yep, sounds fishy. Either was a pirate wanting to steal your pond, or a tattle tail.

I've had several people from Western PA contact me via email or PM through this site.
Most of them were not regular participants, if at all, on the forum.
No one asked me anything that I considered sensitive.
But caution is always best.
While a lot of us openly contribute, sometimes I wonder about the greater amount of people who simply view the site. While it's global, it is also a small world as demonstrated by Matt Clark coming across his old HS guidance counselor through Pond Boss.
Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:" "She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

I won't post any aerial photos. I think it is a breach of privacy for them to even be on websites(although it is kinda neat to see your place). GPS coordinates may can be obtained even without posting a link. Not sure. Here is a strange homeland security issue. All ships and commercial towing vessels had to have a device installed which has gps, heading, speed, ship name, official number, radio call sign inputted into it and it transmits the info via VHF radio digital link. This is for USCG tracking the vessel and knowing who it is. Well....now you can subscibe to a website out of London and see all this info on the ship. You can copy and paste to Google maps and find the exact location of it. Some security, huh?
