I may be in the Orlando Florida area with my fiance (who fishes) on February 17 - 21. She has a meeting on the 19th and 20th. Is there any good fishing in that area during that time? If so, what types of fishing? Offshore an option too. Any recommendations for locations? Any recommendations for guides? Also, we are considering driving from Illinois so open to any fishing in between. It seems like Greg had mentioned a good lake in Alabama at one time. I'd love to catch a peacock bass but seems like those were ahead south? Would like to catch stripers as well. Priority for any fish would be catch numbers, but size would be a bonus.

Rangersedge,

Just down the road east a ways is the small town of Titusville. Out of there, good access is available to the Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon. This is one of the very best areas for sight fishing for redfish anywhere...but I'm not sure about Feb. as the weather may be a major factor. Its worth a trip there and to Merritt Island and the Cape anyway. Lots of interesting stuff to see including nature stuff and space stuff.

Unfortunately my guide contact lists are misplaced somewhere because of a recent move...can't find a danged thing. I have fished Mosquito Lagoon several times, although not recently. It has some beautiful, huge redfish.

Do a search on Titusville redfishing and you will get lots of info...here is one, but I can't personally recommend this one or any other without my lists.

Ranger are you kidding that is prime time for BIG BASS! Folks from near and far to get to that area of the workd right when you are there. I'm not one with deep pockets to do that noor have a bass boat. However I did get to fish farm 13 and stick marsh about that time of year when down on shock survey for client. The week b/f warm front came thru and client who took me caught, get this 4 bass over 8 lbs including 12.4 lb. Of course we caught cold front but still fun getting out there to see the big gators.

If you are driving down I-75 will go right past one of our plantations. Exit 83 (83 miles from FLA)They do have some good fishing, $300/day/p includes loadging and 3 hot southern meals. www.littleriverga.com
Good luck, you might get bass of a lifetime.

Ranger- Mosquito Lagoon was my fishing grounds when I lived in Orlando. If you go to www.floridasportsman.com that web site will give you all the lakes, what is striking, tide charts, guides and a wealth of other information to make your trip a very enjoyable one.

There is nothing like fishing for a big redfish or trout with a gator below your kyak and a shark fin breaking the surface infront of you at sunrise!

Fresh water fishing at Stick Marsh is fantastic. 4-6 pounders all day long. Wild shinners and baloons are a hell of a way to fish for the big ones but it works.

Vero Beach is about 1.5 hours from Orlando. There is a guide on the Indian River named Mark Yanno. I think his number is 772 567 2690. I go with him while picking up new Pipers(airplanes) which are built there. Never failed to catch lots of fish and this guy really knows his stuff!
