Well, he might not think it's funny. I know some of you folks mess with the trailcams. I thought ya'll would enjoy these. Got these shots on 12/27. The first is with a homebrew cam set up to monitor a fence crossing...got to be fun going over a barbed wire fence like that. The last ones were Moultrie cam watching a feeder. I'm thinkin he was just trying to keep us from telling whether he met the 13" spread requirement in our county!

I think he learned what not to do with round bale twine!

How did you mount your game cam to get the shot of the feeder?

I have my camera on a tree right now for a feeder right next to it, but my good feeder is in a field and I don't have a good place for the camera.

Thanks,
Eddie

I use a T-post to mount mine. Sometimes I wedge a piece of wood (on top portion of camera) for an angle just below feeder. Some are sensitive and the feeder blowing in wind will set it off.

Nice shots! Deer look healthy.

Board is mounted to T-Posts with U-Bolts. Camera is mounted on board with woodscrews and spacers. I have a solar panel on one of the post.

I use a tripod with an adjustable ball head from http://www.trail-pod.com/

They also have a tree-mount model with adjutable ball head that mounts on a tree.

The tripod is very sturdy with solid construction. It has 2 bubble levels for correct orientation of both the legs and the ballhead, and is easy to adjust. Tripod height adjusts from 1.5 to 4 feet.

It has a heavy metal plate to mount your camera. The plate has lots of openings to allow mounting of almost any model game cam. They describe it as "Universal mounting plate will fit all trail cameras".

It is VERY easy to adjust the camera direction and angle with the ball head or to move the entire tripod to another location.

I use my trail-pod near a tree and then use a cable lock to secure my cam to the tree.
They incluise a fabric (nylon???) carrying bag and three metal stakes to drive thru the tripod feet to keep tripod from falling over.

Highly recommended! I am have used many tripods over the years as a photographer and these are study.

They sell 4 models:
tree mount with ball head $60
tripod WITHOUT ball head $60
tripod with ballhead green color $80
tripod with ballhead camo color $90

I don't have any connection with the company other than being a satisfied customer.I bought three.

Thanks for the suggestions and advice.

My wife gave me a Stealth Cam for Christmas that we're having all sorts of fun with. It's a digital 2.0 camera that takes some pretty good pictures!

Here is my current setup. It's attached to a tree that I also have my feeder hanging from. Behind me, is part of the dam for my lake.

I usually get 20 to as many as 130 pictures on it a night. Most are hogs, or parts of hogs. This guy is the main one who's there every night.

Sometimes he shows up with a few girlfriends.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f40/okosongoro/FourHogs.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f40/okosongoro/Boarwith3girlypigs.jpg

After the hogs leave, the racoons show up.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f40/okosongoro/Racoon.jpg

Here was a real suprise. Not so much that vultures were eating corn, but that there are two types of vultures here. We see the turkey vultures every day, but until this picture, we didn't realize that we had black vultures too.

This is the feeder I want to move the camera too. Yesterday morning, there was a boar there larger than this one in the picture. He was a monster that we'd never seen before. There is also a large family group that feeds here from time to time, but we don't know when. We've seen them a few times at last light, but it's been a month since we've seen them with the spotlight at night.

I like the tripod idea, but I question how long it will stay standing with a dozen or twice that many hogs running around it, scratching on it, or just walking into it? The T-Post will be stronger and more steady, but I was hoping to have something I could take out when I mow the grass.

Thanks,
Eddie

Ross,

Can I have permission to share that bale twine whitetail with my taxidermy website? I would of course give you credit for the photo and everything.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Eddie:

Maybe you could drive 2 or 3 pieces of pipe into the ground, flush with the surface. Make a T-post or (smaller) pipe framework to set in the holes to hold the camera. Lift it all out when it's time to mow.

Eddie, I really like Franks link and the tripod. Move it, mow and put it back. Or maybe even take it elsewhere.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Aint ya'll got Weedeaters in North Texas? :p ;\)

My only reservation on the tripod would be hogs. Well, I guess cattle could be a problem if you have them. Hogs really like to rub. Even with the leg stakes, I would still be worried about them taking the camera down. I set the height of my camera mount by looking at the legs of my feeder and getting above the highest rub/mudline. The hogs really liked rubbing on the T-Post so I cut a small cedar and wired it around the post...seems to have stopped the rubbing for the most part.

Now the tree mounting bracket I like! \:\)

Oh, I have seen folks concrete a post in a 5 gallon bucket to mount their cameras. Still has the issue of being knocked over, but makes a fairly solid portable stand.

You guys lost track of the most important thing. That buck looks funny as heck and I am sure that he is in some way shunned or ridiculed by the other deer.Dang hippy! I would wonder what would go through my mind if sitting in a tree stand during bow season and that dude came swaggering by all cool and stuff trying to act like he meant to have a bailing twine afro.

But all the camera stuff is good info and also the feeders. I havent paid attention to the size of them before the picture, somehow I thought you have to have a bigger hold tank than a 5 gallon bucket. How often do you have to refill it?

Last summer, I had the opportunity to not only meet with Theo Gallus, but I was afforded the $.50 tour of Gallus Farms including the famed Theos hole, home to fishing extraordinaire.
Being the prankster that I am, while Theo shimmied up the telephone pole to answer an inbound call, I was able to sneak into his fancy sittin room and set up a hidden game-cam. I was not disappointed. Can anyone help identify which model feeder this is?

Ross, while we all laugh at that poor afro-buck now, just wait, he's a very fine looking young deer. Probably around 3 years old...with the humiliation he's going thru this year, he's going to be kicking some serious butt once he can see again !!! Plus, he will remember all the whooppin' & hollerin' his buddies did...remember Roudolph ! Hopefully he'll lose his horns early, and come back next year as a very fine 10 pt.

Not sure about the feeder, but it seems to be slinging out the famed Victrola brand larval suckling feed of times past.

I hope he loses'em early too. We had buck's with antlers into mid March last year. You think his hair piece is gonna give him a little "Boy named Sue" attitude huh? \:D

Well I don't know how funny this would be I would be scared to death if I came face to face with this. I wonder what the deer is thinking? I have seen one of these on my place 24 years ago.

Chris,

Is that your picture? I'd be scared to death too, but my place is full of snakes and half of them are poisonous!!! I kill everyone I see and can tell you everyplace I've ever seen on on my land. The memory of each encounter is seared into my brain.

Eddie, no its not mine, it was taken about 20 miles down the road, in Bradlyville. I did have one on the place 24 yrs. ago like I said. It was every bit as big as this one and I didn't know what to do. I was on my horse at the time and it was moving away from me ...thank GOD! The one I had here was killed on the Highway a few days later and it was 6ft. 3inches long. It was about 6 inches around. I wish I would have gotten a picture of it.
