My experience with earth movers is that we depend on them to know what we want them to do. Rather, they should depend on us to make sure we communicate what we want. The more we depend on them to be our knowledge base, the greater the margin for missing our goals. I'm not necessarily telling you to tell them HOW to do the job as much as to precisely and specifically describe WHAT you want done and what you expect. Compaction is one of those things I have learned to expect.
