Does anybody know what type of bird this is?

Winston, could it be some sort of "fancy" chicken? or possibly a "fancy" type of hen pheasant? Otherewise it looks somewhat exotic for the US.

Do you have a better picture of the tail?

I dont want to put what I think it is, dont want to corrupt any answers. I will post what I think it is in a bit.

Looks like some kind of pheasant to me too. I will post your pic on a taxidermy site I frequent in the bird category and will have a definte anwser for you. Those guys really know their birds.

Here's what a taxidermist colleague said that raised pheasants,

"The bird is a first year golden pheasant male, it won't be full color until it molts again next summer and finishes coloring out into the fall. If there are black and white bars on the tail, as it appears in the photo, then it is definitely a Golden/Amherst cross. Someone also mentioned the red color th the crest as an indicator of a cross, the photo isn't good enough to really tell if the color is right for that or not. I'm not sure it's fullblooded, if you look close around the gills, it looks like there's a little redear mixed in there somewhere. Cool Bird.
