My favorite gadget is also very inexpensive...the digital kitchen scale that Bz mentioned is really a great pond gift, very useful.
But my single most favorite pond item is a 3 wt fly rod custom tied for me recently by a good friend. Cost under $200 but what a wonderful tool for catching those lunker CNBG, Tilapia, and soon lunker TGG's.
