Yeah we know that beaver's don't care about the river, but you can see what I'm up against when Paul gets advice like this. He was also excited about jugging the pond (he'd never done it before) to see what was in there. Then when I get there it's now a catch and release pond. Hell you can C&R from a jug too, but I wasn't about to argue. Also I brought chicken and beef cleanings for bait, so it was pretty much catfish/turtle jugging anyway, unless the bass were really hungry, which would have shown something else about the lake.
I'm going to try to gather up my evidence and make a presentation when I go back home for Christmas. I'm also going to try to get him to purchase some traps. I have several ideas of where to set them already and will know more as I get some more time around the lake. I hadn't even seen the lodge until Sunday, I really need to spend some more time out there.
I've got to get him to look at the pictures of the trees that they are killing, if he doesn't move soon there will be nothing left. It's not my place or my money, but I'm treating it like my own so it just kills me.
I know where I can get the traps locally, but they didn't have the tool to set the traps, and I know from the little reading I have done that I really want a good one. I've already seen too many pictures of store bought ones that bent.

Just get two pieces of 1 x 1 x 1/4" angle iron about 30 inches long. make a pair of sissors out of them by drilling a hole through both pieces 7" from the end and bolting them together with the flat edges facing in. Notch the end of both pieces 1/2" from the end to make a hook that can hook on to the springs.

been a while since i've been on the forum - this is a good (and fun) thread.

i hate to be the pessimist.......... but if you have beaver(s) in your pond currently, you will never get rid of 'em. i trapped 4 the first year i declared war on 'em, and shot 4 more last year, but i've spent A LOT of time and effort "hunting beavers".....and they never go away for good.

sure i've killed "the last one" many times, but within a few months a new one will move in and set up shop. i've spent the last few months cutting and spraying every willow tree around the pond to try to dissuade 'em from coming back, but i'm not very optimistic it'll work.

Strmchzr, you must have a shortage of coyotes in Kansas. We've had them twice in the creek. They usually last about a year.

the creek that runs by us has plenty but they dont bother the smaller stream that feeds my pond. pelt prices are going up you could stock a few good size LMB with just one pelt that is my theory

I bet that would make a nice warm coat during the cold weather the north has been experiencing.

A lot like nutria.

i havent yet tasted beaver, but i can tell you critters prefer beaver over everything and anything else

flocks of bald eagles will appear also
