We looked intensely at a LOT of land for over a year before buying our place. A couple of properties we thought we really liked, but the price was too high. Looking back, I wouldn't rather be any where else.

Part of the appeal of the perfect place can be getting it for a price that let's you, shall we say, customize it to your specifications. The place that's too much to buy doesn't leave money for customizing.
