Theo- I have been wondering, what call do they have for a Aerospace Engineer in central Ohio? In one thread you said you were doing inertial guidance or navigation. Do you figure trajectories for payloads around massive planets or moons?

I work at a former USAF base (which had about 95% civilian employees), "privatized" 10 years ago, that repairs several different types of military and commercial avionics (if unfamiliar with this term, think "aviation electronics" - this has worked for me), primarily inertial navigation systems. I don't figure trajectories, I figure out what wrong with the hardware (at least when I'm doing actual work and not playing buzzword bingo).

The facility is here because of geological and building stability requirements. WRT the building, in the 1950's the Air Force built a 10 acre, 4 story tall open building to stamp out whole airplane wings. We are sitting on a godawful amount of concrete poured to support the big presses. When the building was finished, the designed purpose was obsolete, so it sat empty for a decade or so, until USAF picked it as a stable (vibration-wise) place to test gyroscopes and accelerometers. These instruments are so sensitive that test runs would be ruined by people walking in the hallway outside the room they are in, if the testing floor were not isolated from the rest of the building.

The building is 3 miles from where I grew up. I went past it on the way to school for 5 of my 12 years of public schooling. And it's only 4 miles from my farm and pond - a pretty good commute.

poland_jack, I wish I had taken pictures of absolutely every step of the process. It's way too easy to forget what is where and why I did something. Also, I wish I had done a much better job of recording what I put into the lake, sizes, cost of fish, dates, etc.
