Anchor worms aren't white. They look like a bristle off an old hair brush. If you have anchor worms, they will be imbedded in the flesh of the fish, with the short "tail" sticking out from the fish. Often, there's algae growing on the anchor worm. If you will catch the fish, wet your hand, grab the anchor worm and give it a gentle tug, it will come out. You will see a head covered with spiny-looking nodes that "anchor" it in fish flesh. Anchor worms aren't usually a big problem.
