My pond is done!





Photobucket really shrunk the resolution of these pictures. To see them better save them and then view them.

It came out very nicely. I have the grass seed planted and I'm waiting for it to fill. Any ideas how long it will take? I seem to get maybe 6" for every 1" of rain. Does that sound right? I hope I don't lose too much to evaporation between rainfalls. What IS the usual evaporation rate anyway?

Anyway...I'm pretty stoked and look forward to it clearing and the first alge bloom so I can add some bluegill...

Congratts on geting your pond finished, but even if we save the pics they are still small. Maybe you should try to redo them on photobucket

Joe, expect 4 to 5 feet evaporation over a year, but not this time of year. Daytime aeration will increase it a good bit in summer. I will probably shift to night aeration only next summer.

p.s. somewhere brettski (and others) posted some good links to nat'l average evap. rates, if i find it i'll post, or if somebody else can do it faster go for it......i should have saved the dern thing to my favorites but alas....

your evap loss will be buffered by yer summer rainfall...out here in sunny CA the loss is lost unless you have supplemental summer water.

edited post, filling rate is directly dependant on watershed yield and pond volume (assuming no leakage). in my case once the creeks started flowing (after ~6-8-inches of rain), my 1 acre 6 to 15 ft deep pond filled in a matter of days.
