I don't recommend bahia grass unless you want to make hay. I tried it once and found it to be too "weedy". It's very hard to get rid of too!

I highly recommend bermudagrass for the Gulf states. There are low growing seed varities like Sahara and Yuma that require little mowing. If it's just the pond banks, the more expensive Princess77 variety would be even nicer.

My second choice would be centipede seeds mixed with cheap bermuda seeds. The bermuda starts quick for erosion control, and the centipede will take it over in 2 years.
