Happy dance
I got my pond, I got my pond
Happy dance

Ok here's the deal:

I'm moving a bit north (central Indiana) in two months to live near the rest of the family. My aunt has given me a pond to do with whatever I please \:\)

It's been about a year since I've seen the pond, It's been neglected completely for about 8 to 10 years now. It's about 1 acre (maybe a little less),spring fed (I believe), oval, trees around the back half away from the dam. Last I saw it was mucked up pretty bad with algae mats and probably filling in with leaf debris. It had bluegill, lmb and channel cats stocked at one time, plus whatever my uncle decided to release into it from time to time.

So it'll take a little work, but I can't wait to get started, and put some of the great advice I've read here into practice \:\)

I'd like it to be a little different than the 20 thousand other ponds in the area (lmb,bg,cc) so maybe yellow perch/smallmouth bass. Perhaps a few trout in the winter and tilapia in the summer? We'll see.

I was going to go to bed at a decent hour tonight, but now my mind is racing and sleep is impossible!
In 2 months I'll be able to officially call my self a junior Pond Boss \:\)

That kind of passion makes for a good steward. Congratulations.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Well, some of us dig their pond 1 shovelful at a time, some of us have a pond dropped right in their lap. I would much prefer the latter! :)Congratulations, and give us a fishing survey real soon!

Way to go Blackjack...now the fun and hard work really starts.

Dare to be different. If you aren't living on the edge, you are just taking up space. \:\)

Hi im chad congrats on your pond. I have two ponds one is a .3 acre perch and minnows only pond and other is a acre and has most species.Ive heard that smallmouth bass are extremely aggressive towards perch, and will eat and destroy perch ribbons that are full of eggs giving them ahard time to regenerate themselves. May want to keep this in mind when stocking. Especialy when a perch dinner cost between 8 to 12 dollars. Good luck have fun Chad.
