Last weeks 3D ultrasound of our little girl due in a few weeks. I wish I had a fishfinder that could deliver images like this

That is a good image - amazing what they can do now.My twins ultrasound 18 years ago was nothing like that.

They've been giving us the old 2D all along. You had to squint a little to make sense of them. They didn't volunteer that they could do this. I asked and I'm glad I did. It 3D takes about twice as long as a 2D, maybe that's why they didn't volunteer.

Congrats Ryan on the little girl. Mine turned 7 months last week, you will have your hands full.

As for the fish finder, look at the high end Humingbirds. I think they are close to $2000, but they have awesome detail.

Don, I saw them in the BPS catalog. A $2000 fishfinder with GPS would look pretty funny in my $200 rowboat. Kinda like a $5000 set of rims on an '85 Honda.

I'm sure it'll be a life changing experience. The wife is into full on nesting mode right now.

Technology marches on. We could tell our kids were human from the ultrasounds (although with the second, we had chromosomal testing to make sure), but we had to wait 'til they were born to see what they looked like.

Yes, Theo it's our first which may explain my over-excitment and posting baby pics on a pond website. The pictures were so neat I couldn't resist.

Some people play Classical music through earphones to stimulate the baby. I'm pumping in Mr. Lusks "Bossing Your Pond" CDs.

Congrats !! Kids are an incredible and all encompassing journey for the rest of your life. When you find yourself getting mad or frustrated with them ; stop , relax and think about how to best encourage them to use the talents and opportunity given them. A thoughtful composed parent is a good example.

BTW we did the pre-birth reading/talking to and music thing and I feel like it helped.

On the fishfinder point. I know I don't want one that good. When I fish for them I don't want to look at the screen and see them laughing and making obscene gestures toward me as they swim off.

Every father seems to be a little extra proud of the first child, it shows here and we are proud to be a small part--congratulation.

Ryan, if you are in the delivery room you will have the opportunity to see the most memorable sight of your life.

When the baby is first born, it is kinda bluish purple. Then as oxygenated blood starts flowing through the body, it turns kinda white or pink.

I consider it the miracle of life. No Mom ever gets to see it because she is usually so bushed. I have told quite a few guys to watch for this. They all agree that it is the most unforgettable experience of their life.

DD's right. I can't remember what I had for dinner last night, but watching my two boys' births is something that I will never forget. It is truely a miracle!!! Go in the delivery room.......

My wife will never let me forget my excited cries of "It's a head! It's a head!"

Thanks for the kind words. I've seen hundreds of farm animals born but was thoroughly shocked at the video we watched at the hospital to prepare us for the big day. It was very graphic and nothing like...well pretty much...nothing like what I was expecting. My wife has decided just to keep the baby were it is. We'll see who wins that battle soon enough.

I'm planning on being with her every step of the way.

I've treated both my kids' births as special events (translation: bring a cooler of beers to celebrate).

Of course it's a joyous time, and as you'll have many visitors, both family & friends, you want to be a good host.

She arrived on October 6th!!! A little sooner than expected but all is well. 6lbs 4oz 19.5" Hearing the first cry was something I'll never forget. It is such an exciting time!

Her name is Alaina Addison. Her movements aren't coordinated enough for casting yet but she may prove deadly with an ice-fishing pole and jigging spoon in a couple of months

That's a lovely name.

Cabela's has these stuffed animal fish. We got a LMB, Channel Cat, and Walleye for my daughter when she was born (actually they were gifts from a friend of mine).

She was about a year and a half old before she could say the names and differentiate them by sight.

You can actually lip and gill these stuffed animal fish, so that's how I always hold them when we play with them.

So earlier this summer, I had my daughter up at our pond, and I caught a largemouth. I had it by the lip and I was showing it to her, and she kept trying to put her finger in the gill to hold it. It was funny.
