What do you all think of Skids/Pallets, Tires and PVC piping for structure.

Good, Bad or Ugly?

I would have special designated areas of structure but I'm worried about people getting snagged while fishing on the underwater skids/pallets. I guess you can get snagged just as easily on old underwater trees as well. Any past experiences or advice would be helpful.

PL, I took this approach. I didn't place any structure close enough to the dock and swimming area to be concerned about it. For the structures like tires, concrete blocks, etc that I deemed hazordous to unknowning folks that may decide to bail out of a boat, I tied floating bouys and marked these. The other structure that was not sharp or wouldn't hurt a person if they dived and hit it like plastic barrel catfish caves I didn't worry about it. I have seen a kid almost drown once when he stepped in an old tire in water over his head and got his foot hung in it. Luckly his friend noticed him and came to his rescue in time.

That is exactly what I'm worried about, safety for kids, swimmers. My lake is basically football shaped. I figured I would put the structure on each end, each of which are the more shallow areas of the lake anyway for spawining. The dock will be in the middle of the lake with the nearest underwater structure on each end roughly 100 ft away from the dock from each side. My kids, family and friends will all be aware that there is no swimming on the ends of the lake, I'm more worried about my kids friends, etc. There will be no boats on the lake, it is too small and you'll be able to fish the entire lake from the banks. I was thinking of putting "no swimming" signs near each area of structure.

You could tie a floating polypropylene line across the pond to mark off the no-swimming zones at each end.
