Anyone have any information or a link on the species? Someone is requesting info on another site I frequent. I found them on the Internet but not much information. Never heard of them before now.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

All I could find was a rather old-looking hand drawn plate - could it be an obsolete species name?

I've never heard of Mr. Broadear.

Only a single reference on the National Marine Fishes Historic Image Collection. If you check out the collection index http://www.photolib.noaa.gov/historic/nmfs/fgind9.htm

You'll find out that this was a study done by a single man in the 1800's. Several of the species have outdated names and some species are a bit confused with others.

Sounds like the guy requesting info is testing you \:\)

He lists bluegill as Blue Sunfish or Copper-Nose. Lepomis pallidus

And although he got the White Crappie correct (pomoxis annularis), he lists the Black Crappie as The Calico Bass, or Strawberry Bass. Pomoxys sparoides.... there are some peculiar entries, it's worth taking a look.

Here is the FishBase list of all lepomis. A search did not reveal any lepomis obscurus or broadear sunfish.
