1. Stock grass carp and tilapia in low numbers until magnitude of problem is established. Good advise for the novice but best to consult a competent fisheries biologist to determine numbers needed. We got into serious trouble last year by under stocking, that caused serious problems, and was corrected by stocking appropriate numbers.
2. Grass carp won�t eat water primrose. It may not be their favorite aquatic vegetation but they do a good job keeping it under control on our ponds.
3. Grass carp cannot be stocked in the summertime. This myth is supported by economics and not by biology. Suppliers cannot afford to take the time and expense to transport unless large numbers are involved. Our�s were stocked in mid summer last year. We were fortunate that our supplier had a large order for a nearby ranch.
4. HSB are a fragile species that will fight to their death. They will fight to their death unless landed quickly and properly revived. HSB are tougher that than their striped bass parent but not as tough as the white bass.
