I had an area of grass on a slope that had died three times. It had been seeded with the entire 7 acres of grass at the same time in the fall of 2004, and 95% of that lawn has done just fine. So I excavated approx 15 feet out from the house which was at a level about 2-1/2 feet lower. I then made the transition by dropping 10" on the first two levels and a little over 12" on the final one where we are back to grade.

Thank goodness for the tractor because the drought we're experiencing here again this year has made the top 18" of sandy loam harder than I'd care to try to dig by hand.
By the way, that Trophy Plot Maker is made 7 miles from here in Bonham, Texas. Here's a pic of it attached to the ATV and up on the trailer after just returning from another property we have 5 miles north of here where I had done some work around another pond that morning.
