Here are the final figures for my pond.
85' wide, 220' long 14' deep. Basically Oval Shaped.
The DNR told me to stock
100 Largemouth Bass
350 Blue Gill
200 Red Ear
50 Channel Catfish (only if I want them)
Personally, I like catching and eating catfish. He said they can make a pond too muddy? Is this true? I don't want Mud issues since I will be using this pond as a water supply for the house. The more cloudy and muddy the water, the tougher it will be to treat. Opinions?

Where are you located? I guess you plan to stock the BG, RE CC this year and wait until next year on bass? The numbers are about right excpet about double the amount of bass I suggest. Also if you like CC you can easily double or triple that amount with no problem especially if you takeout good % before they reach 3 lbs. Only make it muddy if you have several hundred in a pond that size, I would say not true.

We can't advise you if we don't know where you are. Outdoors? Why are some of you paranoid to say where you're located anyway? I don't get it. 
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I think 50 adult catfish in a 0.4 acre domestic water use pond is way too many for relatively consistant clear water conditions of water visibility in the range of 3ft-6ft. If you are happy with water visibility of 18" - 2 ft then use 50-60 catfish. Keep track of how many you stock and please do come back here in 3 years and give us a water quality/clarity report.

Bill there must be some diff. in soil types up there. We have many clients that have several hundred catfish in pond that size with no clarity issues.

Pond bottom soils have a lot to do with pond clarity. Numerous types of clay soils can contribute to turbidity. The pond ecology and watershed can also affect cloudiness.

bugfree, I'm building this pond in Lynnville. I currently live in Evansville. I would really like to see your place and get some info, I'm a rookie when it comes to this stuff and I really want to do everything right. Let me know maybe I can meet you up there next weekend, the 17th or 18th if you don't have anything going on.
