Be careful with one with a top. I caught an 8 pt. white tail buck last year in mine. Luckily, I was able to let him out before he did too much damage to himself.

I've wondered about deer. However, for the last 2 years, they have ignored corn feeders. We have had a really good acorn crop.

I know that pigs, like deer, eat acorns. What do they feed on during the summer?

I talked to my brother who raised a hog and watched her eating habits. When he took left overs and dumped them, she carefully separated them. She ate meat first, then any kind of sweet rolls, and finally vegetables. Corn seemed to be her least favorite food.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Like PJ, I once caught a buck in my trap, but released it unharmed. There is a commercial product that really attracts the hogs. It is sold in feed stores and at Academy....called something like "hog wild" although I don't remember exact name for sure. If hogs are in the area, it will bring them in to this stuff.

Dave,
I'm not sure how one gets this job, but a friend of mine, who is a veterinarian, got appointed county hog trapper for Travis county. He said he caught the same doe and fawn twice in one day in one of his hog traps. I grew up around George West, Texas, which is way down South. We used to trap those hogs and castrate the boars and feed them out. They loose that boar smell when you do that. I'm not sure I would try it today at my age.

In Dog Beers, I've had one.

On my hunting lease we will castrate them if they are less then about 80 lbs. Some of the best attractants that we have used is rasberry and strawberry jello mix. We have caught them in open top corral traps but the problem is that they are ok until you get close then they get a little wild and tear it up and some get out.

My Dad says his least favorite job growing up on the farm was "cutting hogs." And those were domestic pigs, not trapped wild porkers - you Texas guys are tough!

A couple of years ago my cousion who lives west of Graham Tx trapped 47 hogs between Thanksgiving and Christmas. At that time the chinese were buying them and the price was higher than that of domestic Hogs. In just over a month he made over 2k catching them.
