joerocker, good observation.

However, because I bench press about 600lbs. and use 180lb. dumbells, I could hold a 100lb. snake like that easily.

But the guy in the picture....? Yeah, you're right on with that call!

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

Excellent rattler. Judging by the head width, it appears to be well over 6' long. The current world record is a tad over 8'. Eastern diamondbacks are on the threatened species list.

Sunil, dont forget, that guy's a Texan. If that snake is 6 ft., then the man is 4 ft, right, Bruce? If the average diameter is, say, 5 inches, then 9ft. snake takes up 1.5 cubic ft. volume. This much water weighs 90#. The snake is all muscle like Sunil and I. I figure 97# is about right.

What a fantastic individual. I wonder how old it was. Does anyone know if it is a Eastern or Western Diamondback?

Norm,

As you probably know the Eastern rattler grows the largest of the breed...but their western most range is way east of Amarillo, in fact they are very rare now even here in East Texas. I'm going to guess it's a Western Diamondback Rattler, but that is larger than they are reputed to get. You are right, what a snake!

Bob-O, I was thinking the same thing, but I think the snakes fangs are smaller. Her lawyer, even referred to her, as "The Snake". That was to my lawyer, only, and after the divorce was finally final, of course.

Meadowlark, I really don't know that much about the ranges of different snakes in Texas (or anywhere else except the midwest) except for what I read in field guides. I would think that the very large individuals of any species are extremely rare. I'll bet that this snake would have brought big money if it were alive.
