Keep in mind, the one young lady was actually snorkling in the pond with the gator, is a shame she died, but stupid people will find ways to die.

I'm not going to laugh here, but one of them was an animal rights activist. I know, it isn't funny.

I just have an ironic sense of humor. \:\)

And you thought gators are bad?

The owner of the Corroboree Park Tavern, Peter Shappert, says the man was trying to remove a tree that had fallen against the saltwater crocodile pen.

Mr Shappert says the crocodile, named Brutis, managed to take possession of the chainsaw the man was using.

"He's been a bit upset with the noise, so he's come shooting out of the pond, run up the tree and tried to grab Freddy the chainsaw man," he said.

"So he's missed Freddy and grabbed his chainsaw instead.

"Presently he's swimming around with a large steel chainsaw hanging out of his mouth."

I can just hear the guy sounding like a Geico commercial! \:D

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Regardless of media hype, facts, or whatever I just wish EVERYONE safety and precautions around any type of water. Gators can also run at up to 60 miles per hour for a short distance. If you ever find yourself in that predicament you should run a zig zag line to tire the gator out. They can run straight, but it takes a lot of effort on their part to weave a path toward you.

Just be safe. Mother nature can be cruel and punishing, and every member here is needed whole and intact.

Deb
Actually Deb it's 35 mph. But that's still plenty fast as it's about the top speed for a sprinter running the 100 meter dash.

Here's a link to the speed animals can attain:

Oops Cecil... I am not a big gator fan so I did not know the facts (obviously the news man did not either). Thanks for the link and for setting me straight. ;\)
Your right that 35 miles per hour is pretty fast. That point REALLY comes into play around small children which would be my main concern. \:\(

Deb,

Yours and Theos posts kind of made me think of what, if we were forced to be something other than human and something water/fish related, I would choose...

I would choose to be a Tarpon. It would be fun to hear your choice and others....kind of off thread subject... you could choose to be a gator, but I doubt it. ;\)

Ah, yes, ML. The Tarpon.

But what about a fresh water fish?

Well, if I was a freshwater fish, I'd have to be a Smallie.

If I was just to be a land-roving animal, I'd have to be a 75lb. dog or mut......

No, wait, make that Sasquatch.

Ok like ... eeeewwwww!!!

If I was a fish I would choose to be a small sleek gambusia minnow. Otherwise I would prefer being an indoor housecat who lies in the window sill, has someone else change my toilet every day, and can purposefully ignore anyone at will. \:D

I'd be Bruce's biggest, best looking male BG - sire to the next generation of CSBG and his Dad Frank's best friend.

I would like to be either one of the little pink fishies on Deb's signature. If not that, a daphnia. I had rather start at the bottom of the ladder than at the top.

Yes, Grettski, I am a very sensitive guy, and the chicks love it. It is a curse, though. Sometimes it's tough being me.

OK, I've been away and would like to chime in...trying to re-align the subject.

In the Dallas/Ft Worth area, the fishing Pro's say that in the back coves of our most popular lakes (Hubbard, Grapevine, Lewisville, Chambers, etc... Gators exist in every lake. We don't experience attacks here, they have become nocturnal. Two years ago, South Dallas football teams had to cancel night practice because Gators took control of the 50-yard line with the river flood.

I also know of several corporate leases that have Gators on their Hunting Resorts. The highlight attraction of the evening is to watch the gator's eyes as they swim around.

There's a place for everything...but keep the kids away...always. Darwin's law should only apply to age 21 and up \:\)

National Geographic had a thing on gator attacks on Sannibel island (FL) the other night. If it were me, I would get rid of any gator over 4ft long, and let a smaller one move back in in it's place. ;\)
