I actually think things will work out for the most part. Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain the owner of the "original house" bought his house primarily for the pond. I asked him what he was going to do with his 5 acres and he said nothing. He then proceeds to tell me his plans about building a deck and watching the pond. That is unfortunate for him. He has only lived there for 3 weeks but our property has been in contract for 3 months and was delayed because it took forever to put together a land/construction package. Our intention has always been to cut off our view of the back of his house. We live in Ohio and we made several compromises in purchasing the land. We had ruled out several properties because of having to look at the back of houses (flag-like lots) and distance from our employment in Columbus. But after seeing the property, we decided that it was worth the 45-50 minute commute and it was always out intention to put up shrubery to block our views of other houses. In fact we had already researched the type of shrubs, bougt a subcompact tractor with a backhoe to save my aching fifty year old back, and drawn a plan of our landscaping before this guy had even seen his property. HE SHOULN'T HAVE BOUGHT HIS PROPERTY BASED ON MY POND. He may have to dig his own pond or something.
He made the comment once that he and his wife were laughing at our futility in chasing geese away. Later, he offered to get rid of two old boats we inherited from a previous owner because they were a little bit of an eye sore. He also made the comment that "we" could put grass carp in the pond and split the cost. We've had the property all of 10 days. I don't relish confrontation but neither does it bother me. He hasn't got the message so I'm going to have to tell him that the pond with the fish and the view are not his concern.
I'm not as much worried about other neighbors. I can choose my work hours and I work very odd hours. Also you have to walk up a hill about 15 feet up from the road to even see the pond or to see if we're home so one would be taking a chance of poaching unless they come through the "original house" guy's driveway. I also look alot meaner than I am.
The neighbors that I've met seem like nice enough people and even my front yard neighbor is probably alright. They probably are just going to have to get used to the fact that we're more private than maybe they want us to be.
