I absolutely love PM's....purple martins. I cut a very old, very large cedar tree, mounted a PM house on it and placed the whole thing out by the big pond. PM's everywhere after a couple of years. Funny thing however, they seem to disappear after the hatchlings achieve flying status. Kind of like you described. I wonder if that is their standard MO?
