As far as un-natural structure, placing it in depths where it can't be seen is a solution. In very clear water, I don't think seeing the nasty structure would be long term because I believe 95% of the structure you could place would soon develop a green or brown slime all over it.
Correct me if I'm wrong on that. Certain types of fish (maybe tilapia) might eat all that coating off??
