Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Indiana Pond Management

Hello pond bosses! I have been following Pond Boss from almost the beginning. I read this site everyday but seldom post. I have found a great resorce for fish and pond supplies here in IN and thought I would pass it on. Matt Rayl of American Pond and Lake Management in Russiaville,In has provided me with some great redears and a few grass carp. He is very knowledgeable and seems to be aligned with stocking strategies welcomed by Pond Boss! Just thought this info might be helpful. ps. My 12 acre pond is now five years old and I think I am going to give Cecil a run for his money on big perch!! I caught 19, 13 and 14 inchers Monday!

Thanks. Do you have any pics. of the YP or the pond? What have you observed about your RES growth and condition?

I didn`t take any pictures, now it sounds like a fish story! I will take some soon and try to post them. I will also try to get an overhead of the pond to post also. I work at the Muncie airport, so planes aren`t a problem! My RES are in great condition and are about 8 inches long. It was a funny situation with them. When I first stocked, the initial fish supplier didn`t have redears so 3000 came from another supplier a couple of months later. I never saw one of them again! I guess those small bass ate them. They were much smaller than advertised! Later I ordered 1000 from Matt. He had some creative ideas with stocking and now I catch RES fairly regularly.

That is good news. It does not sound like a fish story as most of us don't have a camera with us all the time. Pics. are good to have though and we all like to see them. There are a number of northern pond owners (as well as the rest of us) here that would like to here the RES plans/story as they are trying the same thing.

You meant you caught 19 in quantity of 13 and 14 inch yellow perch right? Not a 19 inch, 13 inch, and 14 inch fish?

Any of them egg packed females?

Yes - Cecil don't get too excited, it was 19 perch 13" to 14" long. But the competition is starting to line up. I am waiting for the elusive 17" YP.

I have been helping Matt Rayl with information for producing zooplankton blooms to feed this years 2006 crop of walleye fry. We will soon see how well he can raise walleye fingerlings.

Yep 14 to 14 plus is easy. I'm starting to think the 16 1/4 incher was a fluke. Haven't even seen a 15 incher this year yet. She did tie third place for all yellow perch entered in state records.

Truthfully I'd be happy to see someone else catch one bigger. Hopefully entered on my site.

You are correct Cecil. No 19 inchers.....Yet!! Some of them were full of eggs, but I have not seen any sign of egg sacks on any of the christmas trees where I usually see them. I have had some reproduction because I caught a few 4 inch perch last winter during our short ice fishing season. My best perch to date is 14.5"

Grettski, it ain't the water the fish are in, it's the water we're drinkin. What part of Illinoys are ya? Saw some old pics of when yer digger was tryin ta dig a partial core, looks like it could be in Canada, very nice set up. G Howe
