Hi,

Have checked out this forum several times and found it to be very informative, interesting and fun! Have a new pond build summer 04. Stocked initially with fatheads/crawfish for forage base followed 6 months later with 200 Brooks and 50 Kamloops 3-4". Pond is .5 + plus ac. 23' deep in ctr. with 2/1 sideslopes. Used Geotextile fabric from top of dike down 6' total, 3' above water 3'below, then faced with flat field stone. This was done to cut down on cattails, aquatic weeds and provide cover/spawning areas for forage base. Pond is 100% spring fed, with all surface runoff deverted away. My problems have been, filamentous algae, dry weather aug/sept 05, herons and ospreys. Have introduced barley straw for the algae this spring and putting aeration system together to resolve mid-summer D.O. problems. Look forward to learning/sharing with this group. By the way the first trout I caught from the pond in Oct 05 was a 15" 1 1/2 lb Kamloop. Best Wishes Slydog
