I wonder if the drought is linked to the lack of sunspots. I have seen comparisons between rainfall totals and the 11 year sunspot cycle and the lowest activity usually corresponds to the least amount of rain. We are at 4 months now with the lowest sunspot activity in many years. This is a very informative website and a good one to keep in your weather folder.
