Dateline, Whitesboro, Texas. Dr. Bruce Condello was just spotted at the Dairy Queen, munching on a cookie dough blizzard. He was reportedly seen with Craig Condello and their friend Bob...(sorry, didn't remember his last name, but I know he works for a company that supplies scientific products to companies like YSI). Editor Bob Lusk was with them. Condello and his group are fishing Lake Texoma, and won't likely be on this website again until Wednesday. He was personally handed two issues of the March/April issue of Pond Boss magazine. He was taken aback that his photo was on the cover, and no one told him.
No injuries were reported.
We now return to our regularly scheduled forum.

Bruce- I think someone as important as a moderator and magazine cover writer, needs to be furnished a laptop and a wireless wi-fi or cellular snap dial connection where you can moderate and post new messages even while fishing.

Bruce let me know if you caught anything. The hsb in my pond were really biting on Sunday afternoon and are about the size now of a big sand bass. We were using roadrunners but my next attempt will be with a fly rod.

Done! We put in 3 dozen 9-10" yellow bellys loaded with eggs.

Well, here's the scoop.

I went to Lake Texoma on Friday. Planned on calling Lusk and George when I got on some fish. My cell phone's antenna broke and I basically had no service the entire time I was there. The water was cold and the river was low, so there really wasn't a bite on yet. We only caught about 200 fish and the average size striper was about two pounds. We did catch several dozen spotted bass up to 2.5 pounds and my cousin Craig caught a 43 inch, 43 pound blue cat on 6 pound test, which will likely land him a line class world record citation. It was an epic battle that seemed to go on forever. I'll try to post some pictures at a later date. I travelled a total of 1750 miles, primarily because there is a design flaw in the lake. Apparently the people who decided where to build the dam didn't take into account that three guys from Lincoln would try to fish from shore at some point in the 21st century and it is very inconvenient to get from point to point due to the lake's bizzare star-shaped configuration. The extra 650 miles above and beyond the round trip were spent driving around in sweat filled neoprene waders. I spent 51 hours this weekend in my waders. If I'm not quick to rinse and hang them to dry tonight I'm sure they'll be growing mushrooms by morning.

I stayed at an inexpensive motel in Denison last night. I had also been having some trouble getting my watch/alarm clock to function, so when the knock on the door came this morning I lurched out of bed thinking I had overslept. The voice came from outside saying "Ready?" In my stupor, I replied "I'll be right out"! I quickly grabbed the cooler that I had packed last night and, in my sweat pants, bent over and dragged the cooler to the door and opened it, only to find a forty-something woman looking at me in the pitch black of night.

"Who are you?", she asked in a stunned voice.

"Who are you?", I replied in a MORE stunned voice.

It was then I realized that it was 3:30 in the morning and this lady had apparently come to the door for other reasons, of which I'm unable or unwilling to speculate.

That's the LAST time I ever open a motel room door without confirming the identity of the person outside. :rolleyes:

I'm guessing that she was trying to steal your fish!...am I right?

It's anybody's guess. If her mission was to awaken me from the deepest sleep of my life, then she succeeded.

My bathtub was also backed up, so when I was re-lining my reel on Saturday night I turned on the shower and let it go for a few minutes before I got in. Like an idiot I had turned the wrong knob so I ended up taking a hot shower calf-deep in freezing water.

I guess you get what you pay for when it comes to motel rooms.

I fear a missed opportunity.

The lady, perhaps, sought information on the bite for a 5 AM fishing excursion! Perhaps you jumped prematurely to conclusions based on the subconscious memories of your wasted youth. :p

As a Pond Boss Forum Moderator, I would think that you would try to keep your expense account down and stay away from those expensive high end motels! :rolleyes:

BTW the motel sounds like the one we stay at in Alabama on our annual turkey hunt. :rolleyes:

Bruce, there are no inexpensive motels in Denison. I had to pay $34.50 one time during a basketball tourney. :rolleyes:

Hi Bruce, what part of the lake were you fishing?
Wish I had known you were coming to Texoma � the shad are in the marinas right now and so are the stripers.

My partner and I were on the lake yesterday morning for about four hours and we began catching fish right of the dock.

After a few in the 4-6 lb range we fished west to Mill Creek to check the pre-spawn pattern - they also were in the marina. Picked up about a dozen + also in the 4-6 lb range, and some nice fat white bass.

You are right about the water being low and cold.

The big pre-spawn females are holding tight in the rocks at channel edges, but 20-30 mph winds eliminated that pattern.

Great fish. Of all the stripers we caught there were only about five that would have been in that size range.
