Greetings Pondmeisters...
J.P. Greeson and I are in the office as we speak. I just called Dave Davidson, Dr. Bruce Condello and Ewest, asking them to help moderate the site. All agreed. Here's what they will do. They have the ability to edit, delete or freeze a post or a thread. If something obscene comes across, they can delete immediately. If a contentious thread develops, they will contact the contenders via private message, asking that poster to edit, or they will report it to me and I'll make a decision. Welcome, our three new moderators! Theo, I would have called you, too, but I don't have your number. PM me if you are interested.

Well no more mouse jokes! \:\( Just kidding! :p

I took a pic of a couple of frogs on the pond last year that I want identified. Trouble is one of them is obscured by the one on top... Naah forget it. \:D

Great idea!

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Bob: Congratulations on your choice of moderators and your bold decision to be decisive. In college one of my Economics professors used to say that Democracy exists everywhere in America except in his classroom. He ruled it and made decisions such as who got A, etc. No one got to vote on their grade. In the same respect I do not think a forum bought, administered and paid for by a private company (Pond Boss) is a democracy in the sense of Freedom Of Speech. Unlike those who might urge restraint in editing, etc. it is my opinion that if your moderators think a discussion is going in the wrong direction then they should feel free to do something about it immediately. I would much rather your site be somewhat autocratic than to see it degrade or go out of existence because it became too much of a problem for Pond Boss to worry about.

If the two or three people who were going to lay low (I believe it was Cecil, Debra and perhaps Robinson) were to back away from the excellent pond related posts they have made it would be a great loss to this site. I hope each of them has made the decision that continuing to add their site related comments is a great asset. However, can we please stop talking about stacked frogs?

Theo is now a moderator, also. More good information to come. We are in the process of setting up a FAQ and "Newbie" section. We are also looking at different levels of memberships with different benefits. More news, as it develops.

ewest, DD, and Bruce are excellent moderator choices; each a gentleman in his own way.

I think Bob included me in the hope he can guilt me into policing myself; I am reminded that when Homer Simpson switched from Nuclear Power Plant Worker to Nuclear Power Plant Safety Inspector, the number of accidents at the plant dropped 47%. "Exactly the same number known or suspected to have been caused by Simpson himself."

Cudos to Bob & the new moderators!
I'm sure they're all humbled to be asked, except maybe Dave. \:D
But they've a chore now associated with their visits to the forum. It won't be all pleasure as it was before. They have to read & monitor all posts!
We can all help them by doing as Theo implied & police ourselves & report asap any unsavory posts.

I don't think however they could find an easier forum to moderate. Even unmoderated this has been the most civil forum I have visited.

Theo :

I think Bob was looking for those who started or caused the longest posts/threads which in turn have used up all the space on the site. \:D ;\)

Ric :

Just saw your post. You are absolutely correct on your assessment and foresight.

Agreed! ;\)

You should see some posts on other sites when politcal disscussions/debates are going on.

That's for sure. I no longer frequent a taxidermy website where there is no moderation and no registration. After someone impersonated me on several occasions saying terrible things, and one person said I was a registred sex offender just because they didn't share my views -- I stay away. I truly believe that the site owner will be sued some day, and he can't say he wasn't warned. He also has rules, but they are not enforced.

There's a new sheriff in town!
My wife was a co-moderator for a fairly active forum. Make no mistake, it isn't a breeze thru the Sunday paper. Quite a commitment and diligence is required to do a good job.
A tip of the hat to Mr Lusk for a good decision...but moreover, a hearty "high-five" to the new moderators for the responsibility they have absorbed. All is quiet in Pond-town.
(DD1, Bruce, Ewest, and Theo...how do you like your campaign contributions...small un-marked bills, I presume?)

I think Bob picked the guys that never log off. I'm impressed to be in that crowd. I'm the only one that doesn't know any 3 syllable words.

I've read virtually every post made in the last 19 months. Had I been a moderator that entire time, I'll bet you could count on your two hands how many posts I would have deleted. I'm not expecting much difference...this is such a good group. I'm sure the only thing anybody will notice is that Theo will delete my next twenty or thirty entries just for the fun of it. :p

Mr. Willy :

I assume you know that the big eye sees all -- as in cats eye :

Just kidding. One way we can all help is to remember that each of us can use the "Report Post" function on any bad post to bring it to Bob's attention or call the office if it is serious. As noted above, with the quality of the people on this forum I don't think the function will get much use.

Wood , that would be a good thing as it would cool things off when they get to hot around here. \:D ;\)

Hey Wood, we don't get enough posts from Santa Claus land. We need more from the world where survival is not 100% guaranteed.
